Coronavirus, it’s the name that is running in everyone’s mind today. The whole world is struggling to discover some vaccines or solutions to fight against it. Most of the cities are lockdown, and the government of each country is taking several measures to save people from this virus.
There are several other cases of flu, including bird flu and swine flu, that spread in India and various parts all over the world. In addition to the fear of coronavirus that has started spreading from China and later covered the whole world, there is another virus named “Hantavirus,” which is now spread in China and taken a man’s life, and around 32 suspected cases are found.
In a tweet from Global Times, it stated that a man was tested positive for hantavirus and later died. The man is from Yunnan Province, and he was traveling back to Shandong Province for his work on Monday.
What is Hantavirus?
As per the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) report, hantavirus is a kind of virus that spreads by rodents mainly and results in a variety of diseases. It causes HPS ( Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome) and HFRS(Haemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome). This disease spreads only when the people comes in contact with rodent’s urine, feces, and saliva.
Symptoms of Hantavirus
The symptoms of this hantavirus infection varies for HPS and HFRS.
HPS Symptoms includes,
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Muscle Pain
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Abdominal Problems etc.
If it is not treated on time, then it can lead to breathing problems, cough, etc. with about 30% of the mortality rate. Also, it doesn’t spread from person to person.
HFRS Symptoms includes,
- Reduced blood pressure
- Acute Shock
- Acute Kidney Failure
- Vascular Leakage
Other than this, the early symptoms of HFRS are nearly the same. Also, its spread is very uncommon among people.
Prevention of Hantavirus
According
to the CDC, controlling the population of rodents is the most important step
that can help in the prevention of hantavirus infections.
